Pointing to the pain and suffering in the world, the many atrocities committed by mankind, and the destruction and loss of life brought about by nature, the wicked have waged war against God to dispel the very idea that God even exists.
If God existed, say they, how could he allow such great evils to take place in the world as recorded throughout history and even today and do nothing? The fact that God not only allowed such horrible things but even commanded his people to destroy other civilizations, kill all, including women and children, and possess their lands, is unimaginable in the minds of those who do not know him.
How could slavery be allowed and even supported by biblical ordinances instructing how indentured servitude was to be instituted? Why are seemingly oppressive patriarchies and hierarchies allowed to exist that, to many people, appear to create systematic disparities and inequality? Why is the place of the male elevated as the head and the woman placed under subjection to him? Why does God seem to condone polygamy in the Bible? Such things as these and others irk the ungodly. They judge God and hate him, not only for these things but also for his moral laws, which restrict them from indulging in certain pleasures.
The ultimate conclusion they come to is simply that the God of the Bible does not exist. Because, if indeed he did exist, he would be cruel, genocidal, unjust, a misogynist, and greatly evil. Indeed, to the ungodly, God is so evil that if such a God existed and came into the world, one way or another, the world would crucify him.
Therein is fulfilled the saying spoken to Daniel: “The wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand,” and so it is. The world judges God for the work he is doing on earth and rejects his righteousness. Nonetheless, every word and action of God, when seen and understood through the eyes of God, is righteous, and the end of all things he allows, whether it is good or evil, all works for good. However, these things are beyond the comprehension of a worldly man with a carnal mind.
Suffice it to say, as spoken by the LORD through the prophet Isaiah, “…My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
When an individual, a nation, or the whole world becomes so far removed from God that redemption and healing are no longer possible, destruction follows. This is what happened in the days of Noah and afterwards to Egypt, the Canaanites, the Babylonians, and, in time, even the two houses of Israel and Judah. It also happened in the Americas to the native civilizations after the Europeans arived, and the hand of God was in it all. Were the conquerors sent by God to displace the native Americans? Emphatically, yes! Were they righteous? It does not matter; as the Psalmist said when speaking of the judgment of the LORD, “the wicked is thy sword.”
God, in his judgment upon the nations, sent the Assyrians, Babylonians, and Romans to destroy the ungodly, and later he destroyed them also. And where are those nations today?
As God removed many ancient nations and raised others in their place, so many nations today, who have turned from God, risk the same fate. As it happened with ancient Israel. The United States of America was a nation built by a people of faith who acknowledged God and became a hub of missionaries who have gone throughout the whole world, of whom now we see the fruit. Even so, America has come to a place where she is now being weighed in the balance. The handwriting is on the wall.
God gave humanity two great commandments, both of which are to loveβfirst, to love God above all things, and then to love your neighbor as yourself. The LORD hates evil; as the Guardian of Love, he will discover and destroy all evil at the appointed time. On that day, the perfection of the love of God will be made manifest by his wrath. Any individual or person who crosses beyond the point of no return will not be allowed to perpetuate evil forever.
God’s plan for eternity is perfection; in his love for perfection, righteousness, and holiness, and for the sake of love itself, he will forever destroy all the wicked. God will not allow eternity to be corrupted; not one sin will enter the gates of his kingdom. Therefore, he sent his own Son who shed his blood for the forgiveness of our sins, so that whoever calls upon his name might be saved from the appointed time for judgment of all things past and present.
